Joint Venture & Orthopaedic Research UK

Joint Venture was launched by Orthopaedic Research UK (ORUK) in 2025 to provide a community platform for innovators, entrepreneurs, researchers, investors and others interested in driving innovation and entrepreneurship within MSK.

Through its events, policy work on investments, the aim of Joint Venture is to provide a forum for debate, act as a force for positive change (especially in tackling systemic barriers to innovation), and incubate new ideas and tangible solutions.

Programme partner Orthopaedic Research UK - NHS Clinical Entrepreneur Programme

ORUK supports entrepreneurially minded Early Career Researchers with funding, education, mentoring and networking support to help accelerate the translation of their research ideas into new products or services.

The charity is also one of the most significant funders of musculoskeletal (MSK) research and innovation in the UK and a leading provider of MSK learning for clinicians.

ORUK is the first MSK charity to actively support start-ups and entrepreneurs.

Its approach to innovation follows in the footsteps of its founder, Ronald Furlong, who combined a highly successful career as an orthopaedic surgeon with an equally successful career as an entrepreneur.

In this short video, the CEO of ORUK, Dr Arash Angadji, explains why the charity is prioritising innovation.
