My name is Toby Kay and I am a highly experienced (read – old) digital consultant with a diverse background in journalism, digital strategy, and creative leadership.

I got started in the digital world back in the late nineties after beginning my career as a journalist with The Times. Over the years, I’ve led digital departments for a number of major organisations, including Sky, Trafalgar Tours, and Invensys plc.

I have also had a range of other leadership roles with companies such as: (Beta) Creative Agency, News International, and Interel Public Affairs Consultancy. In these positions, I’ve led award-winning digital campaigns for The Royal Mail, English National Opera, Nuffield Health, and Hammer Films, amongst others, winning recognition from Cannes Lions, The DMA, and the Investor Relations Society.

More recently I’ve focused on working with 3rd sector organisations, charities, and cultural institutions. As such I’ve been fortunate to partner with the British Shipbuilding Industry (CSEU), the Black Equity Organisation, and Community Trade Union, helping them develop and implement digital strategies. I also work with a variety of other impactful clients, including Mission 44, MIT, AdviceUK, the Church of England, and Orthopaedic Research UK (ORUK).

As the founder of Upwards Group, I’ve been able to bring together a talented team of creatives and strategists to deliver tailored digital solutions. Our approach is collaborative and focused on understanding the unique needs and goals of each client, ensuring that the strategies we create are not only effective but also align with our client’s core values.

I am based in Valencia, Spain, where I continue to work with clients and partners across Europe, crafting digital strategies that drive meaningful change.
